The DfE is committed to raising standards in literacy. Getting the fundamentals
right at an early age, in particular teaching children to read through
systematic synthetic phonics, will help to ensure that children leave
school with a lifelong love of reading and the necessary skills to succeed in life.
The DfE commissioned ESPO to provide a catalogue of products, resources and training
to support their commitment to raising standards in literacy. This was achieved
by conducting an EU compliant tendering process utilising the expertise of the DfE
to evaluate products, resources and training against laid down criteria.
This catalogue, ‘The Importance of Phonics’ has been produced
by ESPO on behalf of Pro5 who are a collaboration of five professional buying organisations.
The Government is offering match-funding which is available through the catalogue
as part of the Government’s strategy to meet their commitment. Up to
£3000 is available, to be matched by the school, until March 2013 (for
a total spend of £6000).

4. If you have already used up your allocation of match-funding, you need not worry
– you may still order Show-me Board items from the Pro5 catalogue, and the equivalent
amount of free stock will be applied. Just make sure you quote reference
